Swinburne climbs in Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2024

Physical Sciences, Business and Economics, Engineering, Law and Psychology all ranked in the top 250 worldwide
Swinburne University of Technology has excelled in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, with six subjects ranked in the top 250 worldwide.
Our highest-ranking subject, Computer Science, maintained its place in the top 150. Close behind were Physical Sciences (151–175) and Business and Economics (151–175), which climbed from 176–200 and 251–300 respectively, as well as Engineering (176–200).
Our Law and Psychology subjects also performed strongly in this year’s results, maintaining their position in the top 250.
Swinburne was also ranked by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 by subject in the areas of:
Social Sciences (251–300, climbing from 301–400)
Education (301–400, climbing from 401–500)
Clinical and Health (301–400, climbing from 501–600)
Arts and Humanities (301–400, maintaining its rank).
The latest results reflect Swinburne’s commitment to embedding technology and innovation throughout every aspect of our world-class research and education, supporting students to thrive in a tech-rich future.
“The latest results highlight the global status of Swinburne’s technology expertise, along with our innovative business and economics, social sciences, psychology and health subjects. Our high-quality education and research are proven to be among the best in the world, and Swinburne academics should be very proud of how their efforts in innovative education and industry-relevant research have contributed to this outstanding result,” says Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Karen Hapgood.
“All our subject areas are now within the Top 400 globally, showing the consistent upward trajectory of our institution. Of the 10 Swinburne subjects ranked in the latest results, five subjects improved their ranking, with some leaping several bands in one year – a huge movement that signifies Swinburne’s pursuit of excellence on the global stage,” Professor Hapgood says.
Swinburne’s latest rankings success follows the top 250 overall university ranking in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings earlier in the month.
