I undertook a short study tour to China in 2016 and in 2019 I went on exchange for a semester to Sweden. These were both incredible experiences which I highly recommend at least looking into your possibilities through Swinburne Abroad.
Planning for my exchange semester seemed a little daunting at first, but it’s actually not as bad as I thought it would be and the reward of going on exchange makes the effort worth it.
What I experienced on my exchange was incredible, I found myself having so much fun every single day even if I was not travelling or seeing something new I was spending time with my new friends from all across the world

During my time on exchange I spent a lot of time travelling to different parts of the country and the rest of Europe and I found myself really making the most of my time over there. I learned things about different cultures and history which was fascinating to me but most importantly I think I learned more things about myself.
I found myself able to adapt to new cultures and environments and it has made me passionate for more travel and further opportunities abroad. The best part of my experience was making new friends from all across the world. Learning about the interesting differences and similarities in culture between us and having friends that I believe will last a lifetime.
The study tour was also a terrific experience and I recommend it to anyone who has not travelled before and wants to undertake a program that is a bit more structured and comforting than a full exchange semester.
Having said that, I think an exchange semester is a fantastic way to push your boundaries and get the most out of your abroad experience. I was fortunate enough to go on my study tour to China early in my degree and therefore had the opportunity to undertake another program.
I think my overseas experiences will benefit my career if pursuing it overseas (which is now a new goal of mine) by showcasing my intercultural experience and I think it will shape where I live in the future.
My advice is to take one of these opportunities early and perhaps you’ll like it so much you’ll come back for another one!
