Overview

This Master of Project Management is designed to provide you with the expertise required to manage complex, high-value projects across a range of industries worldwide. You’ll develop the knowledge, skills and conceptual understanding needed to apply project management principles, as well as address areas including: resource management, risk management, business analysis and strategy.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Master of Project Management requires students to complete units of study to the value of 200 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year

  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Learning outcomes

Upon successfully completing the Master of Project Management, graduates will be able to:

  • apply coherent and advanced knowledge of key project management principles, standards and practice
  • critically evaluate project management theories, methodologies and frameworks in a range of business, management, entrepreneurial and industry contexts
  • critically analyse problems from interdisciplinary perspectives and multiple points of view to establish innovative solutions
  • apply integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, respect and developing awareness of Indigenous and global cultures in a sustainable context
  • critically evaluate, justify and articulate appropriate responses to ethical issues and dilemmas in project management environments.
  • apply innovative and novel project management strategies and solutions across diverse business contexts
  • develop a critical understanding of the fundamental principles and methods of applied research in project management practice
  • apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute a piece of independent research in project management practice.

Professional recognition

Students enrolled in this course are eligible for student membership to the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). Upon completion, students may upgrade to associate or full member status and are entitled to automatic recognition for AIPM’s Registered Project Manager (RegPM) Certification as a Certified Practising Project Practitioner (CPPP).

The following core units of this course are endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management as the Master of Project Management Discipline Core Units: INF70005 Strategic Project Management, PRM60002 Project Management for Business Development, PRM70002 Leading Complex Projects, and PRM80002 Project Governance and Resource Management. The outcomes of these units align to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and the Business Services Training Package competency standards.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Project Management is 100 credit points (normally 8 units). The exception to this rule is for students entering with a Graduate Diploma of Project Management who may be granted up to 125 credit points of advanced standing (normally ten units).
