General Information
Overview
The Graduate Certificate of Educational Studies is a postgraduate non-teaching qualification. You'll gain a broad level of understanding of educational theory, systems and practice, and knowledge of the key issues, policies and theoretical concepts impacting primary education in Australian and global contexts. Graduates will be able to seek jobs in a range of educational-related fields.
Study structure
Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Educational Studies requires students to complete units of study to the value of 50 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.
Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year
One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Aims and objectives
On successful completion of this programme the learner will be able to:
- Develop advanced knowledge of the theories and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogy
- Apply knowledge of the key issues, policies and theoretical concepts impacting primary education in Australia, including the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and global contexts.
- Reflect on learning and take responsibility and accountability for personal development in the context of primary education
- Use independent judgement and apply contemporary educational knowledge to novel or new contexts
- Evaluate and articulate key issues, stakeholder needs and a range of perspectives in relation to primary education
Career opportunities
Graduates from this course will have opportunities to seek employment in a range of associated educational related fields. For example, curriculum developer/consultant, pedagogical assistant, teaching assistant in primary schools and community-based settings.
