Optimising Co-Founder James Richardson shares his experience hiring professional placement students and how they are shaping the digital marketing industry to what it is today.
Since 2018, Optimising has hosted Swinburne students as part of the professional placement program.
Over the years, it has become an important aspect of how we work with clients as well as having a positive impact on our company culture.
We were first introduced to the placement program by our good friends at Inlight. They had been involved for several years prior and found it highly beneficial for the students and their business.
At the time, we were on a similar path and looking to start bringing on more fresh talent into the business that would be the right fit for our client work and overall culture.

We’re immensely proud that over the last five years, all eight students who have completed placement have gone on to full-time positions at Optimising after graduating.
Choosing to be involved with the program has given Optimising a new avenue to find the best and most talented digital marketers, and helping us to train the next generation of SEO professionals.

We have been constantly impressed by the high calibre of students that Swinburne produces and have enjoyed speaking to a diverse range of students who had a solid understanding of marketing and a real desire to learn more about SEO.
We took the time to develop an in-depth training system which enables students to develop solid foundational skills in SEO over their 12-month placement. Beginning with learning the basics of SEO, the students get the opportunity to work within an SEO pod and learn directly from our Specialists, as well as testing their skills on some clients of their own.

Our main aim is to be more than a 12-month placement, we want to set up our Swinburne students for future careers in the SEO industry.
