DataSauce
Poppy Andrews, Operations Manager at DataSauce on how placement students help support their ethos and goals.
DataSauce is a fast-growing digital marketing agency based in Melbourne, specialising in data-driven strategies to develop high-performing search, social, email and creative for clients. We work with startups to established businesses; across e-commerce, B2B, property and event clients.
To support our ethos and goals, we’re always looking for sharp and keen minds who are ready to learn. In marketing, innovation and forward-thinking is integral. This is why Swinburne is the perfect fit for us; students are encouraged to use initiative and this is exactly the kind of people we look for at DataSauce.
Swinburne’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program has given us the option to utilise something special - a fresh perspective. We’ve found that Swinburne students have no preconceived notions of how things should be - which means they can always offer new insights, innovative ways of thinking or even a different approach to what we’ve been doing.

Most students come with little to no industry experience and finish up with formal accreditations and employable skill sets across Paid Social, Paid Search, E-commerce Email Marketing and Data Science. Formal accreditations include Facebook BluePrint, Google Search, Klaviyo and Outbrain certifications. From 9am on their first day, our WIL students aren’t new anymore.
They don’t just fit into the team, they add value. It’s not just the fresh perspective that draws us in either, it’s the contagious enthusiasm and increased productivity throughout the team. It’s been a great staff development tool too, as it has given our team the opportunity to train and mentor our interns, which in turn helps develop their leadership and communication skills. The overwhelming feedback from our team is the feeling of fulfilment they get that they’ve been able to share their passion with a student that’s eager to learn. This is ultimately why we will always continue to offer internship programs at DataSauce.
We’ve had students begin as interns who are now working in senior roles within the business. Tangibly, they’ve contributed to our success, helping manage over $10.1M of client investments in the past six months.
Culture is one of the most important aspects of our business. Swinburne’s WIL students have helped build our culture, how we work, what we value. We believe that enjoying your work and the people you work with is the foundation of any fulfilling job.
Supporting the next generation of graduates means everything to us. We’re as honoured and excited to work with Swinburne students as we hope they are with us. We can’t recommend WIL enough - it’s a commitment that comes back ten-fold.
