Box Hill Migrant Information Centre
Box Hill Migrant Information Centre manager Sue Herbst explains why hosting Swinburne students is a win, win, win – benefiting your organisation, your clients and students.
"We've been hosting Swinburne students at the Migrant Information Centre for years, and I can honestly say that this has been a consistently rewarding experience for us and our clients.
For us the benefits of participating in the Professional Placements program (formerly IBL) are twofold. First of all, it’s a wonderful thing to be able to give students the opportunity to gain experience and confidence to apply what they have learnt at university in the workplace. Hosting students also enables us to do more work and help more people.
Over the years our IBL students have become an important part of our team, helping us to provide a range of aged and disability care, English classes, family and youth support, employment, housing and migration services for refugees and migrants living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We simply couldn’t do what we do without our students."

"The program is good for your organisation, it's good for your clients, and it's good for the students. We are part of a bigger, wider world and it's important to assist people who are just starting out. Truly there are only positives to this program. The way that Swinburne runs the program is seamless, and the support from Swinburne is great."
Sue Herbst , Manager
"The students are always so enthusiastic and ready to learn and participate.
I definitely would recommend this program to other organisations. It's good for your organisation, it's good for your clients, and it's good for the students. We are part of a bigger, wider world and it's important to assist people who are just starting out."
