After a hard year of study and a lot of patience, your nerves leading up to results day are no doubt running a little high. Now your Year 12 results are in, here’s what to do – and what not to do – on results day, depending on how you did.

Scenario 1: I didn’t get the results I was aiming for

No matter how you might be feeling, it’s important to remember that your Year 12 results are just information that helps you to assess the next steps towards securing an offer.

Scenario 2: I did even better than expected

Congratulations! Now’s the time to make sure your year of hard work is put to good use.

  • Do come to Swinburne’s Change of Preference Expo to explore your options. There may be courses you haven’t considered yet that you could be eligible for, or that are a better fit for your study goals and interests.
  • Do consider applying for a Professional Degree or a double degree. A double degree means you could complete two bachelor degrees in just four years. Want to set yourself apart in your future career? Graduate with a year of industry experience under your belt with a Professional Degree.
  • Don’t feel pressured to apply for a course just because it has a higher entry requirement. Before adding a new degree to your VTAC preferences, make sure it’s something you actually want to study – not just a course you’re eligible for.

Scenario 3: I got the results I was hoping for

Give yourself a mental high five for achieving your goals, then take a moment to make sure your preferences are on point before you lock them in for December offer round.

  • Do make sure your VTAC preferences are in the correct order. That means making sure your dream course is at the very top to give yourself the best possible chance at securing an offer.
  • Don’t ignore Change of Preference. Keep adjusting your preference list between every offer round to give yourself the best shot at collecting as many offers – and options – as possible. Yes, even if you get into your dream course in the very first round!
