Carbon literacy training
Swinburne's Carbon Literacy Training program
Swinburne's School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship runs a Carbon Literacy Training (CLT) short certification course in collaboration with The University of Queensland, Federation University and Deakin University.
The CLT is a transformative learning journey that empowers participants to move beyond climate change awareness. It includes many emotional and behavioural enablers that make participants pledge impactful climate actions, individually and collectively, at the completion of the training.
It is suitable for individuals, educational institutions and businesses who are keen to achieve personal or institutional climate targets leading to local and international recognition such as CLP, UK accreditation.
Accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project
Swinburne School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship's CLT was accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project (CLP), UK, as a bronze level carbon literate organisation in 2022. We are the second institution in Australia to receive this institutional CLT accreditation.
Outcomes translate to reducing carbon emissions
Our CLT has completed 6 rollouts of the training program, with 100 carbon literate participants. As a result, their pledges claim to have saved more than 100 T CO2 emissions so far. These outcomes contribute to Swinburne's Net Zero carbon emission agenda.
First of its kind in Victoria
A group of volunteer academics pioneered delivering the CLT at Swinburne Business School in 2021 as the first of its kind in Victoria. It was originally designed as a short training module that smoothly fits into the vibrant working climate of a business school. Since then, the CLT has gained the attention of the wider university community, Swinburne and beyond.
Course delivery
The CLT short course is delivered through four Live Online Sessions, and Self-study blocks over a two-week period. This is followed by an assessment/pledge. The course delivery can be tailored to meet the target audience's requirements.
What is a Carbon Literate Organisation?
A Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) is an organisation that has been accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project as having a substantial commitment to Carbon Literacy.
CLO accreditation supports the development (and recruitment and retention) of a Carbon Literate workforce and requires an organisation to engage positively with its audience or community in developing and delivering low carbon behaviour.
